Prof. Abby R. Rosenberg, MD, MS, MA

Abby Rosenberg is the Chief of Pediatric Palliative Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She completed her Medical Degree at Stanford University School of Medicine, and her Pediatrics Residency and Fellowship training at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington. She also holds advanced degrees in epidemiology and biomedical ethics. Dr. Rosenberg’s research focuses on developing and implementing programs to enhance resilience and improve quality of life among young people with serious illnesses and their families. She has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts on pediatric and adolescent/young adult (AYA) palliative care and spoken at over 100 venues worldwide.  Dr. Rosenberg has received numerous honors, including the 2021 University of Washington Faculty Mentoring Award, the 2022 American Cancer Society Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2023 Pathfinder in Palliative Care Award, the 2024 Palliative Care Visionary Award from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and 2025 membership in the American Society of Clinical Investigators.

Professor Jonathan Koffman

Professor Jonathan Koffman is Professor of Palliative Care and Director of the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre at Hull York Medical School. 

A social scientist by training, his research focuses on inequalities in palliative and end-of-life care, particularly the impact of ethnicity, culture, and social disadvantage on patients and families. He has extensive expertise in developing and evaluating complex interventions, mixed methods research, and the analysis of large, linked datasets. His work informs national and international policy on equitable access to palliative care.

Workshop 1 – Building a Resilience Toolkit 

Facilitator: Prof. Abbey Rosenberg, Chief of Paediatric Palliative Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Professor of Paediatrics at Harvard Medical School. 

Workshop 2 – Bridging Worlds: Culture, Compassion and the End of Life 

Facilitators: Tara Kerr Elliott, Director of Care at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice and Rev. Daniel Caldwell, Lead Chaplain at the Atlantic Technological University and Programme Chair for Postgraduate Palliative and End of Life Care. 

The one-hour small group workshops will offer participants working in children’s palliative care the opportunity to engage deeply in an interactive and collaborative environment. It will facilitate active participation, discussion, peer learning and practical application of ideas and techniques. It will provide an opportunity for direct engagement with expert facilitators, making it ideal for exploring new tools, practices and problem-solving approaches in a supportive setting. 

Workshops can be booked when registering for the conference. Each session is limited in capacity, so early booking is recommended. The additional cost for attending a workshop is €10
